PrEP Info.

Many men who cruise for sex don't seem to know about PrEP, particularly younger guys. If you are HIV negative, you may be able to take pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) medicine to reduce your risk of getting the HIV virus. PrEP is available as a tablet. You take it preferably with food before you have sex, or you can take it daily so you are always prepared (my preferred option). You are able to get the medicine free from sexual health clinics across the UK. I attend my local Sexual Health Clinic every 3 months* for a check-up & to collect my free, 3 month's supply of PrEP, and it's always a good experience as the staff there are very pleasant, understanding and kind. It is completely discreet and there's no embarrassment in telling them anything, however problematic one may think what you need to discuss is - they've heard it all before! :-) I consider being on PrEP to be 'safe sex', though, obviously, it doesn't protect against other STIs. But they are mainly treatable as long as one has regular three-monthly check-ups and catches them early enough. Hope that's helpful.

*Last tested (negative for everything) April 2024.
